In March 2012 the Miramar theatre will open its doors with a spectacular gala night featuring both renowned Cuban performers and students from Havana’s music and arts schools performing side by side. You can be there too, either in person, or by sponsoring a seat in the newly renovated auditorium dedicated to the memory of Kirsty MacColl.
You can be there too, either in person, or by sponsoring a seat in the newly renovated auditorium dedicated to the memory of Kirsty MacColl. The Miramar theatre has been a major renovation project for the Music Fund, it is one of the largest cultural projects financed from abroad on the whole of the island , and the Music Fund is contributing over £350,000 to overall costs.
As well as well as the new auditorium, with extended and sprung stage, new sound and lighting rigs, acoustic tiles, new weatherproof roof and hung ceiling, air conditioning system and of course, new seating – the theatre will also feature an annex housing rehearsal and dressing rooms and a café with an intimate performance space to transform the Miramar into a theatre and arts complex that can be enjoyed by all the community and age groups. Not forgetting its roots as a cinema, the new theatre will also have a movable screen so film and multimedia performances can take place.
A fitting tribute to Kirsty MacColl
The Miramar Theatre will provide a fitting tribute to Kirsty MacColl in whose memory the MFFC was established. Kirsty was a good friend of Cuba and loved the island, its people and music when she recorded her last album there. The main auditorium will be named after her, and there will also be a permanent display in the foyer.
For just £150 you can have your own seat plaque on a seat in the Kirsty MacColl auditorium at the Miramar Theatre in Havana.
This is the perfect gift for family and friends, or as a commemoration or dedication, or on behalf of a trade union, organisation or business to show their support for Cuba.
The gold coloured plaque carries your own choice of wording of up to 140 characters in black print and will be fixed to the back of a seat in the Miramar main auditorium.
The plaques will help fund the completion of the theatre and future music fund projects. Plus if you are a UK tax payer, through the Gift Aid tax relief the MFFC can claim back 20p on every pound you spend on sponsoring a seat- and it won’t cost you a penny more! Just fill in the Gift Aid section on the application form.
